Due to the heavy rains in the past few days the water levels of the Tana River have increased rapidly. Three schoolchildren were crossing the river to attend madrasa and unfortunately the boat they were using capsized. One of the three was able to swim across the river but the other two drowned and the search for their bodies is still continuing. Efforts to get quick help from divers were not successful as most divers are located in Lamu County.
